Governor Gilmore announces 125 new jobs for the Alleghany Highlands

Richmond - Governor Jim Gilmore today announced that LKM Industries will locate a $7 million manufacturing facility in Alleghany County, employing up to 125 Virginians over the next three years. Virginia successfully competed with Tennessee and North Carolina for the project.

Governor Gilmore announces up to 150 new jobs for Virginians

Richmond - Governor Jim Gilmore today announced that Road Runner, the new high-speed online service jointly owned by MediaOne Group, Time Warner, Microsoft Corporation, Compaq Corporation, and Advance/Newhouse, will relocate its corporate headquarters to Fairfax County. Approximately 70 employees will move from Boston, Stamford and Denver, and up to 150 new jobs will be created by year-end 1999. 

Richmond - Governor Jim Gilmore today announced that MCI WorldCom will locate a new multipurpose call center operation in the City of Chesapeake. The center, which will initially employ 1,100 people by the third quarter of 1999, will support a variety of local, national and global calling applications. The company will invest $10.5 million in the project.

Civic Development Group invests $1.5 million in call center

Richmond - Governor Jim Gilmore today announced that Civic Development Group will locate a new call center in the City of Harrisonburg. The company will invest $1.5 million in the facility and create 150 jobs in the Shenandoah Valley. 

Washington County wins 350 new jobs

Washington County - Governor Jim Gilmore today announced that Bristol Compressors will expand its manufacturing facility in Washington County, creating 350 new jobs for Virginians. The Virginia-based company will invest $20 million in the facility and plans to hire 100 initial employees in January 1999.

Civic Development Group invests $1.5 million in call center

Richmond - Governor Jim Gilmore today announced that Civic Development Group will locate a new outbound call center in the City of Martinsville. The company will invest $1.5 million in the facility and create 150 new jobs for Virginians. Civic Development Group announced in October that it would locate a call center in the City of Harrisonburg, also creating 150 jobs through a $1.5 million investment.

Williamsburg - Representatives from seven southeastern states and the Republic of Korea reaffirmed their commitment to promoting international trade and mutual investment today at the 13th Southeast U.S. (SEUS)-Korea Economic Conference, held November 7-9 in Williamsburg.

RICHMOND - Governor Terry McAuliffe today announced that nine companies from across the Commonwealth have graduated from the Virginia Economic Development Partnership’s (VEDP) Virginia Leaders in Export Trade (VALET) Program, touting impressive results from their newly acquired tools to successfully export products and services overseas. These companies increased their international sales by an average of 50 percent during their two years in the program. The VALET program now has 269 graduates.
