Yacht-maker to create 350 jobs over the next three years

Chesapeake - Governor Jim Gilmore today announced that Orca Yachts will relocate its headquarters from Fort Lauderdale, Florida to Chesapeake. The yacht manufacturing company will initially provide 110 jobs and create $5.8 million in capital investment. The company will hire up to 350 employees by 2001. Virginia successfully competed with Florida, Texas, Mississippi, South Carolina and North Carolina for the investment.

Richmond - Governor Jim Gilmore today announced that Connecticut Spring & Stamping Corporation will locate a facility in the City of Newport News. Under the name CSSC Virginia LLC, the company will initially employ 80 people, yet expects to hire 300 by the year 2001. The company will invest $3 million in the project.

Richmond - Governor Jim Gilmore today announced that Elliptus Technologies, a subsidiary of Richmond-based LandAmerica, will relocate its Houston, Texas corporate headquarters to Chesterfield County. The company will eventually employ 250 in a 20,000-square-foot facility, investing $50 million in Virginia. The Commonwealth successfully competed with Texas, Utah and North Carolina for the investment.

Abingdon - Governor Jim Gilmore today announced two projects to aid Southwest Virginia's economic development efforts. The first of which, the Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) Entrepreneurship Initiative Grants Program, is a small business development program providing $390,140 in grants to the region. 

Job totals through July 31 exceed all of 1997

Richmond - Governor Jim Gilmore today announced that Virginia has secured 28,298 new jobs since January as a result of major economic development announcements. More jobs were created in the first seven months of 1998 than for all of 1997.

$8 million investment brings 100 new jobs

Martinsville - Governor Jim Gilmore today announced that Bassett Furniture Industries, Inc. will expand its Henry County operations. The new 70,000-square-foot facility will bring an $8 million investment to Virginia and create 100 new jobs. A $200,000 Governor's Opportunity Fund was granted to the county to assist with site preparation. Virginia successfully competed with Georgia and North Carolina for the project.
