Chubb Group Insurance Firm to Hire 250 for First Rapid Response Unit

Richmond - Governor George Allen today announced that New Jersey-based Chubb Group of Insurance Companies will locate its first Rapid Response Unit centralized claim service center in Chesapeake. The $10 million facility expects to employ more than 250 people when it opens in 1998 and may expand in future years.

RICHMOND - The Virginia Economic Development Partnership (VEDP) today announced the acceptance of a City of Alexandria company, Northern Defense Industries, Inc. (NDI), into its two-year Virginia Leaders in Export Trade (VALET) program. Launched in January 2002, the program assists exporters in the Commonwealth that have firmly established domestic operations and are committed to international exporting as an expansion strategy. Participating firms are chosen based on their dedication to growing export sales.

Nexus Communications to Create 550 Jobs for Southwest Virginia

Dickenson County - Governor George Allen today announced that Nexus Communications will locate a new $4.3 million call center in Dickenson County's Happy Valley Industrial Park. Approximately 130 employees will be hired initially, followed by as many as 550 over the next three years. Virginia successfully competed with Maryland for the investment.

Richmond - Governor George Allen today announced that "K" Line America, Inc., an integrated ocean intermodal transportation company, will relocate its corporate headquarters from Murray Hill, New Jersey, to Henrico County, investing $8 million and creating 90 new jobs in Greater Richmond. In 1996, "K" Line located a national service center in Chesterfield County which has since hired over 135 employees. Virginia successfully competed with New Jersey for the relocation.

Quality Packaging Systems Plant Will Create 109 New Jobs

Richmond - Governor George Allen today announced that Quality Packaging Systems, Inc., will locate a new pharmaceutical packaging plant in Chesterfield County, creating 109 jobs for Virginians over the next five years. This $6 million facility will begin operations in June, and will become the only contract pharmaceutical packaging company in the Commonwealth.

Paper Manufacturer To Invest Additional $117 Million in Covington

Covington - Governor George Allen today announced that Westvaco Corporation will invest $117 million for the expansion of its Covington paper mill in Alleghany County. Two separate projects will increase operating efficiency at the mill and will provide essential support for future production increases.

Mariah Vision3 to Move Corporate Headquarters, Create 75 Jobs

Richmond - Governor George Allen today announced that Mariah Vision3 Entertainment, a video game and software developer, will relocate its corporate headquarters and production facility from Pittsfield, Massachusetts to the City of Suffolk. Virginia successfully competed with North Carolina, South Carolina and Maryland for the $1 million investment. Mariah Vision3 is expected to hire 75 project managers, graphic artists, software developers and metal fabricators.
