$17 Million Investment Will Create 40 Jobs for Southwest Virginia

Richmond - Governor George Allen today announced that Magnolia Manufacturing Company Inc., will locate a new air-jet spinning facility in the Carroll County Industrial Park. The $17 million investment by Magnolia's sister company, Parkdale Mills, will create 40 new jobs in Southwest Virginia, and will be Magnolia's second manufacturing operation in Carroll County.

Richmond - Governor George Allen today announced that Steag MicroTech Inc., and MicroHandling GmbH will locate facilities in Henrico County to service Virginia's semiconductor manufacturing facilities. Steag MicroTech Inc., will create 30 new jobs and invest $.5 million in Henrico's Byrd Center. MicroHandling GmbH will employ 30 people and invest $.5 million in the county's Villa Park III. Both companies are headquartered in Germany.

AVID Medical to Build Plant, Create 100 New Jobs

Richmond - Governor George Allen today announced that AVID Medical, Inc., a newly-formed medical products company, will locate a $2.25 million plant in James City County, creating 100 new jobs over the next three years. AVID Medical's decision is the second major economic development announcement made in the past two months for James City County's Stonehouse Commerce Park.

Henrico County - Governor George Allen today dedicated GE Financial Assurance's new international headquarters in the Brookfield office park. The Henrico County Headquarters brings a $15 million investment and will create 200 new jobs, in addition to the 130 new jobs also created by GE in Lynchburg.

TXI Virginia Steel Recycling Will Create 400 New Jobs

Dinwiddie County - Governor George Allen and Bob Rogers, President of TXI, today enthusiastically announced the decision by TXI to locate a new steel recycling plant in Dinwiddie County, a $400 million investment that will employ 400 people over the next three years. The new plant is TXI's Virginia steel recycling plant, and is the largest new industrial recruitment in Virginia this year. Virginia successfully competed with North and South Carolina for this major investment opportunity.

Richmond - Representatives from the Virginia Economic Development Partnership, Virginia's Center for Innovative Technology, and businesses from across the Commonwealth recently attended COMDEX/Fall '97, one of the world's leading computer and communications trade shows, held in Las Vegas. Local and regional economic development allies also provided support. In 1997, more than 2,500 exhibitors played host to over 220,000 visitors, including more than 40,000 international visitors.
