RICHMOND - Governor Timothy M. Kaine today announced that Alpha Natural Resources will build its new corporate headquarters in Bristol, creating 69 jobs and retaining 131 jobs. This project comes as a result of the July 2009 merger of Alpha with Foundation Coal. Virginia successfully competed with Maryland and Tennessee for the project.

RICHMOND - Governor Timothy M. Kaine today announced the creation of The Ignite Institute, a nonprofit medical research institute established by Inova Health System and Dr. Dietrich Stephan, a recognized leader in the field of molecular medicine. The Institute is the first entity built around the application of personalized medicine innovation in the community health setting. The project’s $200 million investment in Fairfax County will create 415 jobs.

RICHMOND - Governor Timothy M. Kaine today announced that Universal Fiber Systems, a leading producer of fibers and yarns for carpet, upholstery, automotive, industrial and other textile applications, will invest $13 million to expand its production facility in Washington County. The project will create 84 jobs. Virginia successfully competed with North Carolina for the project.

RICHMOND - Governor Timothy M. Kaine today announced that Argonaut BioFuels, a wood pellet manufacturer, will invest $16 million to begin operations in Louisa County. The company, which purchased an existing wood chip mill, will expand the plant to manufacture wood pellets for fuel, animal bedding and paper mills. The project will create 65 new jobs.

RICHMOND - Governor Timothy M. Kaine today announced that RTI International Metals, Inc. (NYSE:RTI) a leading U.S. producer of titanium mill products and fabricated metal components for the global market, will invest $100 million to open a manufacturing facility in the Patriot Centre, an industrial park jointly developed by the city of Martinsville and Henry County. The company will manufacture titanium for the aerospace industry, creating 150 new jobs.

RICHMOND - Governor Timothy M. Kaine today announced that Barr Laboratories, Inc., a subsidiary of Barr Pharmaceuticals, Inc., plans to invest $62 million to add production and packaging capacity at its facility in Bedford County to augment its current line of products. In addition, Barr plans to add equipment to incorporate a new timed-released technology for solid dosage pharmaceuticals. This new technology will allow the company to enhance its current product line as well as add new products to the marketplace. The project is expected to create 220 new jobs.
