SUFFOLK - Governor Mark R. Warner today announced that Target Corporation will invest $65 million in a new East Coast import warehouse in the City of Suffolk. The investment will allow Target to hire 250 employees initially, and another 250 within three years, totaling 500 new employees for the 1.5 million-square-foot Target Stores facility. Virginia successfully competed with Georgia and South Carolina for the project.

RICHMOND - The Virginia Economic Development Partnership (VEDP) today announced the results of the Commonwealth’s first survey of the state’s service-based companies. Conducted in 2001, more than 5,500 Virginia professional service firms responded. Recognizing the fact that Virginia’s economy includes growing numbers of service-based companies, VEDP’s Division of International Trade designed the survey to determine the number of Virginia service companies that export and the overall value of these services.
RICHMOND - Governor Mark R. Warner today announced that WAM!NET, a global provider of secure, digital content delivery and hosting solutions, has opened its Government Services division headquarters in Herndon, VA and plans to create more than 200 new jobs through a $1.5 million investment in Fairfax County. Virginia successfully competed with Maryland and Washington D.C. for the project.
RICHMOND - The Virginia Economic Development Partnership’s (VEDP) Division of International Trade recently brought home praise and successful results from its recent visit to Saudi Arabia. Receiving the Virginia delegation, U.S. Ambassador to Saudi Arabia Robert W. Jordan praised the Commonwealth as the first U.S. delegation to call on Saudi Arabian companies for international trade since September’s terrorist attacks.
RICHMOND - The Virginia Economic Development Partnership’s (VEDP) Division of International Trade will host a business delegation from Mexico May 13-17, 2002. A select group of 14 Mexican environmental and information technology companies will visit Richmond and Northern Virginia, seeking business partnerships with Virginia firms.
RICHMOND - Governor Mark R. Warner today announced that Siemens VDO Automotive will expand its production facility in the City of Newport News. The expansion is a result of the consolidation and relocation of three business activities in Michigan, Indiana and Connecticut. The company will create 55 new jobs through an investment of $2.6 million.

This year’s trade show will be held in Fajardo, Puerto Rico, June 16-19, 2002.
