RICHMOND - Governor Timothy M. Kaine today announced that Banker Steel Company, LLC will invest $1 million to open a new steel fabricating facility in Campbell County, creating 110 new jobs. Banker Steel currently employs 105 at its Lynchburg headquarters, and will maintain its Lynchburg operations in addition to opening this second facility in Campbell County.
Virginia successfully competed with South Carolina for the project.

DANVILLE - Governor Timothy M. Kaine today announced that Arista Tubes, UK, a manufacturer of plastic tubes used in the consumer and personal care products industry and an integral part of Essel Propack, will invest $24 million to open a manufacturing facility in Danville. The project will create 145 new jobs. The company plans to move into a former Dan River facility at River Pointe, and is scheduled to begin operations by summer. Virginia successfully competed with New Jersey and Pennsylvania for the project.

RICHMOND - Governor Timothy M. Kaine today announced that he will lead a three-day trade mission next week, May 30th - June 1st, to Canada. Virginia Secretary of Commerce and Trade Patrick O. Gottschalk and Secretary of Agriculture and Forestry Robert S. Bloxom will accompany the Governor to Toronto and Montreal.

RICHMOND - The Virginia Economic Development Partnership (VEDP) today announced the acceptance of five new companies into the Accessing International Markets (AIM) export development program. The program, launched by VEDP in December 2005, helps Virginia companies pursue international leads in a new market overseas and realize the benefits of exporting.

RICHMOND - The Board of Directors of the Virginia Economic Development Partnership (VEDP) today announced that it has selected Charles H. Majors to serve as the board’s chairman. Majors, President and CEO of American National Bank & Trust Company in Danville, succeeds J. Thomas Fowlkes who served as board chairman for two two-year terms. Majors was appointed to the board in January 2004 by former Governor Mark R. Warner.

ROCKY MOUNT - Governor Timothy M. Kaine today announced that MW Manufacturers Inc. will invest $23 million to expand its Rocky Mount headquarters and production facility in Franklin County. The company, which produces and distributes window and door products for the residential construction industry, will create 175 new jobs. Virginia successfully competed against North Carolina and New Jersey for the project.

RICHMOND - Governor Timothy M. Kaine today announced that ABB, a leading provider of power and automation products, systems, solutions and services, will invest $3 million to expand its plant in Bland County. The facility, which produces dry and vacuum cast transformers used by industrial manufacturing plants, hospitals, universities, the military, and utilities, will create 30 new jobs. Virginia successfully competed internationally with China, South Korea, and Spain for the project.

RICHMOND - Governor Timothy M. Kaine today announced that ABB Inc., a provider of power and automation products, systems, solutions and services, will expand its plant in Halifax County. The expansion involves a $25.3 million investment and will create 127 new jobs. The facility manufactures liquid-cooled transformers for large utility, industrial and government users. Virginia successfully competed with Mexico, Colombia, China, and Missouri for the project.

RICHMOND - Governor Timothy M. Kaine today announced AVID Medical Inc. will invest $7.9 million to expand its facility in James City County, creating 303 new jobs. The company manufactures custom procedure-ready trays for the healthcare industry and will expand by doubling its existing 90,000-square-foot facility in the Stonehouse Commerce Park. Virginia successfully competed against California for the project.
