RICHMOND - Governor Timothy M. Kaine today announced that Dollar Tree Stores, Inc., the nation's leading operator of single-price point dollar stores, will expand its corporate headquarters in Chesapeake by 75,000-square-feet. The expansion, which includes additional office space, a new data center, regional training facilities, and an auditorium, will create 100 new jobs. The project is in addition to the company’s current 120,000-square-foot headquarters facility and 400,000-square-foot distribution center in Chesapeake, both of which opened in 1997. Dollar Tree’s expansion will involve an estimated more than $12 million investment for the initial phase, with additional amounts to be spent over the next 24 months.
“Dollar Tree is a valued corporate citizen in Chesapeake and across the Hampton Roads region,” said Governor Kaine. “This additional investment and job creation through a nationally recognized company like Dollar Tree is a strong vote of confidence in the diverse economy and business friendly approach of the Commonwealth.”
Dollar Tree Stores, Inc. (NASDAQ: DLTR) operates 3,219 stores in 48 states, compared to 2,914 stores in 48 states one year ago. These stores are supported by a network of nine distribution centers, strategically positioned to provide logistics support to any point in the contiguous United States.

The Virginia Economic Development Partnership worked with the City of Chesapeake to secure the project for Virginia. Governor Kaine approved $200,000 from the Governor’s Opportunity Fund to assist Chesapeake with the project. The Virginia Department of Business Assistance will provide training assistance through the Virginia Jobs Investment Program.
