RICHMOND - Governor Timothy M. Kaine today announced that Federal-Mogul Corporation, a global automotive supplier, will place assets in value of $12.7 million and create up to 71 new jobs as it increases production at its facility in Montgomery County. Federal-Mogul’s Virginia facility produces high volume anti-friction engine and replacement bearings made from a unique bonding process of steel and aluminum. Governor Kaine met with Federal-Mogul officials at the company’s corporate headquarters in Detroit, Michigan, in February.
“I congratulate the company and the team of local and state economic development officials involved in this project,” said Governor Kaine. “Federal-Mogul Corporation has been an important corporate citizen in Virginia since the Montgomery County plant opened in 1971, and the company has benefited from the great labor market in the region as well as reasonable operating costs.”
Federal-Mogul (OTC: FDMLQ) is a leading global automotive supplier, employing more than 45,000 people at 130 manufacturing locations worldwide. The company produces automotive components, systems, and modules for leading automakers and aftermarket customers. Primary products include engine components, sealing systems, brakes, chassis, wipers, fuel pumps and ignition products.
“At all levels, from the Montgomery County Department of Economic Development, to the Virginia Department of Business Assistance, and on, the State of Virginia has been professional, capable and business-friendly,” said Jim Keaney, Plant Manager. “We are truly thankful for their efforts in support of our continued future in southwest Virginia, and increased competitiveness in this global economy.”
The Virginia Economic Development Partnership worked with Montgomery County to secure the project for Virginia. Governor Kaine approved $150,000 from the Governor’s Opportunity Fund to assist Montgomery County with the project. The Virginia Department of Business Assistance will provide training and retraining assistance through its Workforce Services Jobs Investment Program.
“Federal-Mogul’s willingness to continue to invest and add employment at the Blacksburg plant affirms that the County’s strategic efforts to create and maintain a competitive, pro-business environment are successful,” said Montgomery County Board of Supervisors Chairman Steve Spradlin.
