RICHMOND - Governor Timothy M. Kaine today announced that Merillat, Inc., a subsidiary of Masco Corporation and manufacturer of kitchen and bath cabinets, will invest $16 million to expand the company’s Mount Jackson facility. The expansion, which will create 150 new jobs, is the company’s third Virginia expansion in less than two years. Virginia successfully competed against North Carolina for the project.

“Announcing new jobs is satisfying, but when an existing company decides to reinvest in the state, it proves that Virginia really is moving in the right direction,” said Governor Kaine. “Because of our skilled workforce, strategic location, access to raw materials and positive business climate, Merillat continues to grow. I applaud the company’s commitment to the Commonwealth.”

Headquartered in Adrian, Michigan, Merillat has provided quality cabinetry for the home since 1946. A Masco company since 1985, Merillat distributes its cabinets throughout North America. The company operates four manufacturing facilities in Virginia—one in Culpeper County, one in Mount Jackson in Shenandoah County, and two in Atkins in Smyth County.

Headquartered in Taylor, Michigan, Masco Corporation is one of the world’s leading manufacturers of home improvement and building products, as well as a leading provider of services that include the installation of insulation and other building products.

“Merillat is pleased to be expanding their operations in Virginia,” said Steve Byron, Managing Director of Corporate Engineering, Merillat, Inc. “The Commonwealth of Virginia has been an excellent host state, and we are pleased to be expanding at the Mount Jackson facility. Shenandoah County has certainly shown us how much they appreciate our company as part of their industrial and business community.”

The Virginia Economic Development Partnership worked with Shenandoah County to prepare the state’s proposal and negotiate an incentive package to secure the project for Virginia. Governor Kaine approved a $150,000 grant from the Governor’s Opportunity Fund to assist Shenandoah County with the project. The Virginia Department of Business Assistance will support the project with training assistance through its Workforce Services Jobs Investment Program.

“Shenandoah County has long appreciated Merillat’s presence here,” said Dennis Morris, Chairman of the Shenandoah County Board of Supervisors. “Merillat’s decision to invest in the expansion of their Mount Jackson facility as well as create 150 new jobs in our community demonstrates what an important business partner Merillat is to Shenandoah County.”
