RICHMOND - Governor Mark R. Warner today announced that ITT Industries Night Vision (ITT) will invest up to $51.8 million to expand its facility capacity in Roanoke County and create 250 new jobs. The need for ITT’s increased production is the result of a continued swell in global demand for night vision products. The company also is preparing to produce a new product—procured and currently being tested by the U.S. Army—that combines thermal imaging and image intensification technology, the Enhanced Night Vision Goggle.

“This major win for Roanoke County has benefits that transcend the usual economic development announcement,” said Governor Warner. “Not only will 250 Virginians find a good paying job, the multiplier effect will positively impact eleven Virginia sub-contractors. Even today, American lives are being saved on the battlefield in Iraq and Afghanistan thanks to these extraordinary products produced by ITT in Western Virginia.”

ITT, based in Roanoke, is the world’s leading developer, producer and supplier of Generation 3 image intensification technology for U.S. and allied military forces as well as federal, state and local law enforcement. ITT’s parent company, ITT Industries, Inc., supplies advanced technology products and services in key markets including: fluid and water management; defense communication, opto-electronics, information technology and services; electronic interconnects and switches; and other specialty products.

“ITT is grateful for partners like Virginia and Roanoke County whose attentiveness and support make growth as a business easier,” said Larry Curfiss, Vice President and Director of Business Development. “Because of our county and state partnership and talented workforce, we are able to help protect those who protect us.”

The Virginia Economic Development Partnership worked with Roanoke County to support the company’s contract bid for this work. Governor Warner approved a $700,000 grant from the Governor’s Opportunity Fund to assist Roanoke County with the project. The Virginia Department of Business Assistance will support the project with training assistance through its Workforce Services Program.

"ITT has been one of Roanoke County's largest employers since 1958," said Roanoke County Administrator Elmer Hodge. "Their reputation as a quality manufacturer using leading edge technology is known throughout the world. We are proud to partner with them as they launch new technologies to support our national defense and law enforcement officers. The contracts that ITT has secured represent a significant investment in Roanoke County, and we are truly grateful for the high paying jobs that will be created as a result of this expansion. We are honored by the confidence they have demonstrated in our community."
