RICHMOND - Governor Mark R. Warner today announced that Merillat Industries, Inc., a subsidiary of Masco Corporation and manufacturer of kitchen and bath cabinets, will invest $13.4 million to expand its manufacturing facility in Culpeper County and add 140 new jobs to its payroll. Virginia successfully competed with Florida and Ohio for the project.

“Merillat has a stellar reputation in Virginia for consistent growth and commitment to the Commonwealth,” said Governor Warner. “The company’s four manufacturing facilities in Virginia provide as many as 1,150 Virginians with stable, long-term employment opportunities and this expansion gives further merit to Virginia’s reputation for a quality labor force with a strong work ethic.”

The company also operates three additional manufacturing facilities in Virginia – one in Mt. Jackson in Shenandoah County, and two in Atkins in Smyth County.

“This expansion is necessary to support our sales growth, and the decision to add to our Virginia facilities was an easy one,” says Keith Allman, executive vice president of Merillat. “Our great relationship with the local work force, state and local agencies and the prime location in terms of proximity to our customers, make Virginia an ideal location to support our growth.”

The Virginia Economic Development Partnership worked with Merillat Culpeper to prepare the state’s proposal and negotiate an incentive package to secure the project for Virginia. Governor Warner approved a $150,000 grant from the Governor’s Opportunity Fund to assist Culpeper with the project. Culpeper County was instrumental in Merillat Culpeper’s decision to expand. The Virginia Department of Business Assistance will support the project by providing training through its Workforce Services Program.

Headquartered in Adrian, Mich., Merillat Industries has been providing quality cabinetry since 1946. Merillat sells cabinetry for the home in a wide range of styles and design options that offer new ways to organize and store items. With features like pull-out trays and durable protective finishes, Merillat cabinets also offer outstanding value. A Masco company since 1985, Merillat distributes its cabinets throughout North America.

Headquartered in Taylor, Mich., Masco Corporation is one of the world’s leading manufacturers of home improvement and building products as well as a leading provider of services that include the installation of insulation and other building products.

“We are extremely happy to learn that Merillat has decided to expand its facility in Culpeper and create 140 new jobs,” said John F. Coates, Chairman of the Culpeper County Board of Supervisors. “This decision underscores the company’s commitment to this community and to the Commonwealth of Virginia.”
