RICHMOND - Governor Mark R. Warner today announced that Kollmorgen Corporation, a subsidiary of Danaher Corporation, will expand its operations in the City of Radford. Through a $2.85-million investment, the company will establish a customer support center to service its worldwide customer base. The project will create 71 new jobs. Virginia successfully competed with North Carolina and Illinois for the project.

“Kollmorgen is a valued corporate citizen in Virginia and one of Radford’s premier employers for high-paying, technology-based jobs,” said Governor Warner. “This expansion will strengthen Radford’s economy and create new opportunities for the people of the New River Valley.”

Located in Radford since 1959, Kollmorgen is a leading international manufacturer of high-performance motion control products and systems. Kollmorgen is a part of the Danaher Corporation, a leading manufacturer of process/environmental controls and tools and components. Kollmorgen currently employs approximately 700 people at its three existing engineering and assembly plants in the City of Radford. The company’s new customer support center will be located at 203 Rock Road.

“Kollmorgen’s selection of Radford, Virginia was based on the continuing support we have received from both the City of Radford and the Commonwealth of Virginia. They have partnered to make a very compelling business case for the selection of Radford’s Corporate Campus site for our continued growth,” said Kollmorgen Vice President of Human Resources Dennis Mabes.

Governor Warner approved a $75,000 grant from the Governor’s Opportunity Fund to support the City of Radford with the project. The Virginia Economic Development Partnership and the City of Radford assisted Kollmorgen with its decision. The company will take advantage of the Virginia Department of Business Assistance’s Workforce Services Program.

“With several manufacturing sectors in decline, Radford has been in a state of transition for the last few years. To see new investment from one of our premier employers is a tremendous shot in the arm for the local economy,” said City of Radford Councilman Bill Yerrick.
