Governor Gilmore announces workforce training to bring aerospace company, 150 jobs to Virginia
Richmond - Governor Jim Gilmore today announced that Fairchild Dornier will relocate its United States headquarters from San Antonio, Texas to Fairfax County. Sales and marketing, product support and senior leadership will operate out of this facility, initially employing 50 people and increasing that number to 150 within a year. Virginia successfully competed with several East Coast states for this $15 million investment.
"I am very pleased to announce the addition of Fairchild Dornier's U.S. headquarters to Virginia," said Governor Gilmore. "The Commonwealth is an ideal location to headquarter an emerging leader of the aerospace sector such as this. We welcome Fairchild Dornier to Virginia - another outstanding addition to our growing aerospace sector."
"We settled on Northern Virginia after looking at a variety of factors such as customer presence, transportation, quality of life, and the wealth of aerospace talent in the region," said Barry Eccleston, executive vice president of Fairchild Dornier. "As a company with a global customer base, this move will enhance our ability to work with the U.S. and international governments and industry partners as we continue to grow."
The Virginia Economic Development Partnership and the Fairfax County Economic Development Authority assisted Fairchild Dornier with its decision. The Virginia Department of Business Assistance will provide workforce training services.
Fairchild Dornier is a leading manufacturer of jet aircraft for the airline, corporate and government markets and provides a wide range of sales, support, production and engineering services for the aviation industry. Fairchild Dornier has its primary production and design facilities in Oberpfaffenhofen, near Munich, Germany. Production facilities will remain in San Antonio, Texas and other locations worldwide.
