Governor Gilmore Attends GlobalCenter's New Facility Grand Opening in Fairfax County

Over 150 new jobs; serve as a cornerstone of company's global infrastructure

Fairfax County - Virginia Governor Jim Gilmore today announced that GlobalCenter Inc. has officially opened its second data center in Fairfax County. GlobalCenter, a subsidiary of Global Crossing Ltd., is expected to house over 150 new jobs at this facility.

"Virginia is cementing its position as the Internet Capital of the World," Governor Gilmore said. "I am proud that GlobalCenter recognizes the tremendous potential and opportunity in our Commonwealth and has decided to locate this important new facility here."

GlobalCenter is a leading Internet services company that integrates the latest technology into an economical outsourcing model that specializes in the four elements critical for e-businesses to succeed in the new economy: connectivity, data centers, on-demand Internet applications and professional services. Global Crossing Ltd. (NASDAQ: GBLX), GlobalCenter's parent company, is building and offering services over the world's most extensive global IP-based fiber optic network, which will have more than 101,000 route miles, serving five continents, 27 countries, and more than 200 major cities.

GlobalCenter's geographically distributed data centers are designed to ensure high availability and performance for customers by condensing the path of content delivery. The data centers are physically located in major metropolitan business centers and are seamlessly integrated with the Global Crossing IP network infrastructure. Today's data center footprint covers U.S., Europe and Asia-Pacific, including London, Melbourne, New York City and Sunnyvale, California. These facilities are built to specifications that deliver the highest standards in security and reliability because "uptime" is imperative to get customer content to end-users. These specifications include 24x7x365 monitoring, temperature control, fire suppression, UPS/generators, backup power, hand scanners, surveillance cameras and secured racks and cages.

In making its selection, GlobalCenter worked closely with the Virginia Economic Development Partnership and the Fairfax County Economic Development Authority. The Virginia Department of Business Assistance will provide workforce training services to the company.
