Richmond - Governor Jim Gilmore today announced that AmeriServe Food Distribution Inc., one of the nation's largest foodservice distributors, will more than double the size of its Prince William County facility. As a result of a consolidation, AmeriServe will hire more than 250 new employees, resulting in a net gain of 150 new jobs in Virginia.
"AmeriServe's decision to remain and expand in the Commonwealth shows the company's faith in Virginia's growing economy," Governor Gilmore said. "Virginia's strategic East Coast location continues to be a major draw for distribution centers representing a variety of important industries."
The expanded Prince William facility will distribute food and supplies to approximately 2,400 quick-service restaurants, including Burger King, KFC, Pizza Hut, and Taco Bell, in Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Washington, D.C. Based in Dallas, AmeriServe employs more than 8,000 people, and is a subsidiary of Holberg Industries, Inc., a diversified service company located in Greenwich, Connecticut.
"AmeriServe's new distribution center symbolizes the growth of our business here and our commitment to the economic growth of Prince William County and the Commonwealth of Virginia," Division President for AmeriServe Ed Joy said. "We're proud to be able to centralize our operations in a larger, more efficient facility so we can serve our customers from the most cost-effective, state-of-the-art distribution center."
"Existing businesses in Virginia are key to Virginia's economic success," Secretary of Commerce and Trade Barry E. DuVal added. "The state is dedicated to fostering a positive business climate for the distribution industry."
The Virginia Economic Development Partnership and Prince William County assisted the company with its decision. The Virginia Department of Business Assistance will provide workforce training services.
