$9 million facility to employ 200 in 1999
Richmond - Governor Jim Gilmore today announced that Chubb Computer Services will open a new 40,000-square-foot facility in Fairfax County. The $9 million computer training and staffing office, which is expected to open in the spring of 1999, will employ approximately 200 people in its first year of business. The Chubb Group of Insurance Companies, another Chubb corporation, opened a new Claims Service Center in Chesapeake last month, employing 250 people.
"Chubb joins other respected computer firms in Northern Virginia," said Governor Gilmore. "The jobs Chubb will provide and services they offer will bring a great deal of opportunity to Virginians. As Governor, I am committed to the high-tech and information technology industry in Virginia."
Chubb Computer Services, through its Chubb Institute and Professional Resources Divisions, recruits individuals who have been downsized or underemployed and trains them to begin careers as computer professionals. The Year 2000 and the increased importance companies and government agencies place on their information systems have created a large demand for programmers, technical support and networking professionals.
"The market response for our graduates has been overwhelmingly positive," said Ann Berger, Chubb Branch Manager for Northern Virginia. "We have outgrown our current space faster than expected, and to meet the needs of our customers, have decided to invest in the area by building this 40,000-square-foot facility. We expect to train and reemploy thousands of people over the next few years."
"As Fairfax County, and specifically, Reston and the Dulles Corridor, evolve as a center for technology- and communication-focused employers, Chubb Computer Services will be an enormous asset as a firm that successfully recruits, trains and develops professionals to meet those employment needs," said Fairfax County Supervisor Robert B. Dix Jr.
Armada/Hoffler Development Company of Chesapeake has been selected to develop the project. The Virginia Economic Development Partnership and the Fairfax County Economic Development Authority assisted the company with this project. The Virginia Department of Business Assistance will provide workforce training services.
