AVID Medical to Build Plant, Create 100 New Jobs

Richmond - Governor George Allen today announced that AVID Medical, Inc., a newly-formed medical products company, will locate a $2.25 million plant in James City County, creating 100 new jobs over the next three years. AVID Medical's decision is the second major economic development announcement made in the past two months for James City County's Stonehouse Commerce Park.

"AVID Medical made the right decision by choosing James City County's diverse and expanding business environment to launch its medical products company," said Governor Allen. "I am pleased that AVID will become Virginia's newest corporate citizen and an important player in our Virginia Renaissance of economic prosperity and opportunity."

AVID Medical, incorporated in January 1997, is the second start-up company that Michael Sahady has founded in the medical device industry. According to Mr. Sahady, "The company will manufacture, market and sell medical devices and sterile procedure-ready kits for less-invasive cardiovascular and peripheral catheter procedures in the health care industry." Mr. Sahady credits the State and local economic development teams for their proactive assistance during the plant location search and in investigating financing alternatives.

The Virginia Economic Development Partnership, the Virginia Peninsula Economic Development Council and James City County assisted the company with its decision.
