Governor Praises Investments by Steag MicroTech and MicroHandling
Richmond - Governor George Allen today announced that Steag MicroTech Inc., and MicroHandling GmbH will locate facilities in Henrico County to service Virginia's semiconductor manufacturing facilities. Steag MicroTech Inc., will create 30 new jobs and invest $.5 million in Henrico's Byrd Center. MicroHandling GmbH will employ 30 people and invest $.5 million in the county's Villa Park III. Both companies are headquartered in Germany.
"Once again, Virginia's pro-business tax and reasonable regulatory policies have attracted further investment by two high-technology companies, further securing our reputation as the Silicon Dominion," said Governor Allen. "These decisions to locate their operations in Henrico County are true votes of confidence in Virginia's most valuable asset -- our people."
STEAG AG, the parent company for Steag MicroTech, is headquartered in Essen, Germany, and currently employs over 4,000 people worldwide. Steag manufactures automated wet benches and dryers for the semiconductor industry. The company will serve as a supplier to White Oak Semiconductor in Henrico County and Dominion Semiconductor in Manassas. Governor Allen met with Mr. Joachim Nell, board member for STEAG MicroTech, during his June 1997 trade mission to Europe.
MicroHandling GmbH is headquartered in Munich, Germany, and manufactures integrated circuit test handlers and test head positioners for the semiconductor industry. The company will supply equipment to White Oak Semiconductor in Henrico County and many other semiconductor manufacturers in the United States. MicroHandling selected Virginia because of its strategic east coast location, low transportation costs and highly educated workforce.
The Virginia Economic Development Partnership, the Greater Richmond Partnership and the Henrico County Economic Development Authority assisted these companies in their decisions.
