Multi-Million Dollar Investment to Bring 199 Jobs to Chesterfield

Chesterfield County - Governor George Allen today joined company and county officials in opening a new Hewlett-Packard customized packaging and distribution center in Chesterfield County.The facility, located in the River's Bend Center, is one of three regional centers worldwide which will be used to package printer cartridges. The multi-million dollar investment will create 199 initial new jobs.

"I am pleased to welcome this substantial investment from a high-tech giant -- Hewlett-Packard," said Governor Allen. "Hewlett-Packard's new America's Product Completion Center will diversify, enhance and complement Virginia's technology industry. More importantly, this investment will create 199 good new jobs for hard-working Virginians and their families."

Headquartered in Palo Alto, California, Hewlett-Packard (HP) is a global manufacturer of computing, communication, and measurement products. A Fortune 500 company, HP also has a sales and service office at The Concourse at Wyndam which employs 45 people. Additionally, in February, 1997, the company decided to invest in the Eastport Business Center in Henrico County which handles final assembly, packaging and distribution of LaserJet printers. Approximately 137 employees are located at this operation.

"I am extremely pleased with the way we have been able to bring this facility on line in Virginia," said Richard Deep, operations manager at the Chesterfield facility. "The people we have worked with in the local area and the skill set of the employees hired at this site reaffirm Virginia as an excellent choice for HP."

"Chesterfield County is fortunate to have Hewlett-Packard as a corporate citizen, and we are excited about their future here with us. This company's decision to locate an important packaging outlet here in the county reinforces that our economic development practices are paying off," said Jack McHale, Bermuda District Supervisor for Chesterfield County.

The Virginia Economic Development Partnership, The Greater Richmond Partnership and the Chesterfield County Department of Economic Development assisted the company with its decision.
