National Print/Mail Center to Create 110 Jobs, Invest $13 Million
Richmond - Governor George Allen today announced that GEICO, the nation's 7th largest automobile insurer, will expand its existing operations in Stafford County and construct a new National Print/Mail Center. The expansion will create 110 new jobs with an initial investment of $13 million.
"Over the years, it has been truly a pleasure working with Tony Nicely as a friend and business leader, as well as all the great people at GEICO," said Governor Allen. "GEICO's decision to expand its operations in Stafford County insures its presence as a leader in customer service in the insurance industry. It is a powerful testament of our aggressive efforts to attract new businesses to Virginia and encourage existing businesses to expand and prosper in our pro-growth economic climate. Moreover, this decision confirms the availability of capable, skilled Virginians who will be getting good jobs with GEICO."
Over the last three years, GEICO has added over 1,000 employees in Virginia and currently employs 2,100 associates at its Region I Headquarters in Stafford County. The new National Print/Mail Center will allow the company to meet growing customer communication needs by handling national printing and mailing of customer documents and policies in one central location. Construction is expected to begin on the GEICO campus beginning 1998 and will be ready for operation in early 1999.
"Important efficiencies and economies of scale can be realized in this new facility," said Tony Nicely, Chief Executive Officer of GEICO. "Consolidating operations will allow us to be more efficient while improving our customer service. Everything we have done in Stafford County has turned out better than we expected due in large part to the quality of the people and the support of the local government, the community and the State."
The Virginia Economic Development Partnership and Stafford County assisted the company with its decision.
