MAPEI Corporation Facility To Create 40 New Jobs

Richmond - Governor George Allen today announced that MAPEI Corporation, based in Milan, Italy, will locate a $3 million facility in Stafford County, creating 40 new jobs. MAPEI is the world's largest manufacturer of surface preparation and installation materials for the stone, ceramic tile and floor covering industries.

"I pleased that MAPEI has decided to lay down a foundation in Virginia," said Governor Allen. "This investment confirms that Virginia has a business environment where companies can grow and succeed so that Virginians and their families can thrive and prosper. International investors like MAPEI play an integral role in Virginia's growing economy, and clearly the word is out that Virginia is open for manufacturing business."

MAPEI Corporation has manufacturing facilities in 23 countries which include Germany, France, Canada, Puerto Rico, Austria, Australia, Singapore and Malaysia. The company's ceramic tile has been installed in the Denver International Airport, as well as subway stations in Belgium and Switzerland, and corporate offices worldwide. MAPEI also recently helped restore part of the Sistine Chapel.

"Stafford has an excellent east coast location and a good labor force, both of which are important in selecting a plant site," said Nicholas Di Tempora, president of MAPEI Corporation.

The Virginia Economic Development Partnership and Stafford County assisted with the company's decision.
