Richmond - Governor George Allen today announced that Medical Consumer Media will move its corporate headquarters from Bethesda, Maryland to Reston, Virginia. The move is expected to create 100 new jobs over the next two years, investing more than $30 million.
"Medical Consumer Media's decision to relocate its headquarters to Reston is the right prescription for Virginia," said Governor Allen. "Once again, Virginia's pro-business tax and reasonable regulatory policies have attracted a high-technology company, further securing our reputation as the Silicon Dominion."
Medical Consumer Media is an Internet based health communications company focusing on state-of-the-art technology for enhancing health and science education. A company directed by two physicians, Medical Consumer Media creates and implements programs for clients in the health care industry utilizing Internet and virtual reality technologies. The company will recruit a variety of skilled employees including health care providers, 3-D animators, medical illustrators, Web designers, database programmers and computer scientists.
"We are elated to relocate our business to the emerging technology center known as Fairfax County, Virginia," said Dr. Jonathan Merril, chief executive officer and Dr. Rita Roy, president of Medical Consumer Media. "The cooperation we received from State and local officials was exceptional. Virginia's beautiful surroundings, powerful workforce and strong team effort lured us here, and we are proud to be a part of the State's pro-business climate."
The Virginia Economic Development Partnership and the Fairfax County Economic Development Authority assisted the company with its decision. The Virginia Department of Business Assistance will provide workforce training services. Virginia successfully competed with North Carolina, California and Maryland for this project.
