January 29, 2016RICHMOND - Governor Terry McAuliffe announced today that AvePoint, Inc., the established leader in enabling enterprise collaboration across platforms and devices, will invest $1.5 million to establish an operation in the City of Richmond, creating 100 new jobs. The company will also expand in Arlington County, creating 55 new jobs. Virginia successfully competed against Atlanta, Georgia for the project.
Speaking about today’s announcement, Governor McAuliffe said, “We are thrilled that AvePoint will establish its presence in Richmond and expand its footprint in Arlington, Virginia. This is a major international company that provides invaluable data management software that will grow in demand as platforms and devices continue to advance. Technology development is an important component of building a new Virginia economy, and we look forward to continuing a strong corporate partnership between the Commonwealth and AvePoint.”
“AvePoint’s establishment in the City of Richmond and growth in Arlington County is a wonderful testament to the outstanding talent, attractive corporate climate, great infrastructure and quality of life in the Commonwealth,” said Secretary of Commerce and Trade Maurice Jones. “This global technology company will benefit from these great assets and create more jobs right here in Virginia.”

When asked why AvePoint decided to establish a presence in Richmond and expand operations in Arlington, Virginia over other states, Brian Brown, AvePoint’s Global General Counsel, indicated, “It was a highly competitive selection process and AvePoint considered numerous quantitative and qualitative factors in its analysis. In the end, Virginia clearly offers an unparalleled attractive business atmosphere with lower taxes, a lower cost of doing businesses and a highly talented labor force, the combination of which no other location suitably matched. In addition to being business and employer friendly, Virginia offers an idyllic setting for our employees to live and thrive. Compared to other possible expansion locations, Virginia took the winning position by a wide margin thanks to its commercial, social and cultural standing."
Tom Lin, AvePoint Corporate Vice President of North America Sales, stated, “AvePoint has long had its eye on Virginia—Richmond and Arlington, specifically. The highly specialized work force, temperate weather, booming culture, ever expanding and exceptional food and craft brewery scenes, pro-business economy and abundance of Southern charm and hospitality made it a clear choice for AvePoint. We're extremely pleased to grow our operations in the great Commonwealth of Virginia and look forward to many prosperous years ahead."
The Virginia Economic Development Partnership worked with the City of Richmond, the Greater Richmond Partnership, and Arlington County to secure the project for Virginia. The company is eligible to receive state benefits from the Virginia Enterprise Zone Program, administered by the Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development. Funding and services to support the company’s employee training activities will be provided through the Virginia Jobs Investment Program.
