RICHMOND - Governor Timothy M. Kaine today announced that CGI, the wholly owned U.S. operating subsidiary of CGI Group Inc., will add 100 positions to its software development and systems integration facility in the Russell County Government Center in Lebanon. CGI provides information technology (IT) services to the government and private sector.

“When CGI committed to Russell County in 2005 they brought job opportunities to help rejuvenate the region’s economy,” said Governor Kaine. “This company has been instrumental in creating the rural IT model for Southwest Virginia and I am thrilled CGI will add another 100 skilled positions to its current base of 290.”

Founded in 1976 and headquartered in Fairfax, Virginia, CGI Group Inc. is one of the largest independent information technology and business process services firms in the world. CGI is the wholly owned U.S. operating subsidiary of CGI Group Inc., which employs approximately 25,500 professionals in more than 100 offices across 16 countries through its affiliated companies. “With our Center of Excellence in Russell County as the cornerstone, CGI is proud to continue its commitment to creating high-value, high quality jobs in rural America,” said Donna Morea, President, CGI US. “The Commonwealth is a recognized leader in fostering opportunities to do business in Virginia. The flexibility of local and regional government coupled with the availability of highly skilled resources made the decision to add new jobs in Virginia an easy one.”

The Virginia Economic Development Partnership worked with the Russell County Industrial Development Authority and the Virginia Coalfield Economic Development Authority to secure the project for Virginia. The Virginia Tobacco Indemnification and Community Revitalization Commission approved $250,000 in Tobacco Region Opportunity Funds for the project. The Virginia Department of Business Assistance will provide training assistance through the Virginia Jobs Investment Program. Additional funding for training will be provided by the Southwest Virginia Workforce Investment Board.

“We are always excited with any industrial announcement that brings more jobs to our county,” said Danny Brown, Chairman of the Russell County Board of Supervisors. “We are even more excited when it is an expansion of an existing industry because it shows that the company is extremely satisfied with the work environment, especially the quality of the work force. By expanding it also shows an increase in the commitment of the company to our town and county.”

“On behalf of the Virginia Tobacco Commission we commend Russell County and CGI on a continued corporate partnership,” said Charles R. Hawkins, Chairman, Virginia Tobacco Indemnification and Community Revitalization Commission. “We are pleased that the Tobacco Commission could offer assistance to ensure that CGI will stay and thrive in Russell County, Virginia.”
