RICHMOND - Governor Timothy M. Kaine today announced that Command Information, the largest pure-play IPv6 company in the United States, will open America’s first IPv6 training center in the town of Herndon in Fairfax County. The project will create 400 new Information Technology networking, design and security jobs.
“The first dedicated IPv6 training center in America marks a significant milestone in the future of Internet technology,” said Governor Kaine. “Command Information has already experienced tremendous success in Virginia, growing from just one employee to 100 since January. The critical work that will be done at this facility also illustrates Virginia’s continued leadership in the technology industry. IPv6 will have a dramatic impact on military operations, corporate security, mobility, supply chain management and other important business functions across the globe.”

IPv6 is the next generation Internet protocol. Internet protocol is the set of techniques used to transmit data over the Internet. Designed to replace the current version, IPv4, the IPv6 version will bring advanced reliability, flexibility and security to the Internet. IPv4 was designed in the 1970s with no way to predict the demands of the Internet today. In contrast, IPv6 was designed in the past 10 years and supports 340 trillion trillion trillion unique IP addresses, correcting issues such as security, privacy, convergence and more.
The Virginia Economic Development Partnership worked with the Fairfax County Economic Development Authority to secure the project for Virginia.
