RICHMOND - Governor Timothy M. Kaine today announced that Visador Holding Corporation will invest $1.1 million to expand its operations to a location in the Town of St. Paul, on the border of Wise and Russell counties. The project will result in 100 new jobs. The St. Paul facility will fabricate the company’s new construction vinyl window product line, and serve as a warehouse and distribution center. Virginia successfully competed with South Carolina for the project.
“Announcing 100 new jobs for this region is extremely gratifying,” said Governor Kaine. “This project is unique because its location involves the cooperative efforts of three localities -- the Town of St. Paul, and the counties of Wise and Russell. I am pleased to see these new jobs opportunities in this region, and I look forward to Visador’s continued success in Virginia.”
Visador Holding Corporation, headquartered in Marion, Virginia, is the holding company for two businesses: Coffman Stairs and Crown Column. Founded in 1874, Coffman is the leading manufacturer of hardwood stair parts in the United States. Crown Column, with facilities in Gadsden, Alabama, produces a broad offering of synthetic and wood columns, porch posts and lamp posts used in the construction, repair and remodeling of homes.
“Coffman has enjoyed a successful presence for many years in Virginia, Smyth County in particular,” stated Jerry W. Lockette, CFO/COO, Visador Holding Corporation. “Last year we expanded our operations in Marion by working very closely with the Smyth County officials, so expanding within Virginia was not a difficult decision. When analyzing all options available to us we found the cost and ease of successfully completing this expansion could most effectively be done in St. Paul. We look forward to a long, successful business presence in both of our Virginia facilities.”
The Virginia Economic Development Partnership worked with the Virginia Coalfield Economic Development Authority to secure the project for Virginia. The Virginia Department of Business Assistance will support the project with training assistance through its Workforce Services Jobs Investment Program.
“The Town of St. Paul welcomes Visador Holding Corporation and is pleased to have a company of its superior quality join our business community,” said Jack Kiser, Mayor, Town of St. Paul. “We look forward to partnering with Visador in offering employment opportunities to our residents. We have a work ethic in Southwest Virginia that is second to none. We appreciate Governor Kaine and Coalfield Economic Development's hard work and cooperative efforts in bringing Visador to St. Paul. We wish Visador much success and are anxious to begin what we hope to be a long term relationship.”
Russell County Board of Supervisors Chairman Danny Brown stated that "Russell County is pleased to participate in this announcement of 100 new jobs by Visador Holding Corporation. It is a pleasure once again to work with VCEDA, Wise County and the Town of St. Paul to bring jobs to St. Paul. Congratulation to all those involved in this joint undertaking."
“We are especially pleased that Visador has decided to locate an expansion project in St. Paul,” said Carl R. Snodgrass, Wise County Economic Development Director. “The company has already demonstrated they will be an excellent corporate citizen and we look forward to a continuing mutually pleasant relationship with Visador that will increase in scope in the months and years that lie ahead."
