RICHMOND - Governor Timothy M. Kaine today announced that Banker Steel Company, LLC will invest $1 million to open a new steel fabricating facility in Campbell County, creating 110 new jobs. Banker Steel currently employs 105 at its Lynchburg headquarters, and will maintain its Lynchburg operations in addition to opening this second facility in Campbell County.
Virginia successfully competed with South Carolina for the project.

“Banker Steel’s announcement to open a second Virginia facility in Campbell County is great news for the region,” said Governor Kaine. “The company has the capacity to provide steel services to the entire East Coast, and was recently awarded two high-profile contracts that are convenient to the new plant. Banker Steel is a valued employer in Virginia, and I am confident the company and the steel industry as a whole will continue to find success.”

Banker Steel Company is an AISC-certified steel fabricator that specializes in projects up to 10,000 tons. Banker Steel provides steel for bridges, parking garages, warehouses and commercial/industrial building construction.

"We selected this site in Campbell County due to the determination and assistance we received from the Campbell County Economic Development Department along with the participation of the Tobacco Region Opportunity Fund,” said Don Banker, President, Banker Steel Company. “Banker Steel Company wants to publicly thank the Campbell County Board of Supervisors and Mike Davidson for making this opportunity happen for us."

The Virginia Economic Development Partnership worked with Campbell County to secure the project for Virginia. The Virginia Tobacco Indemnification and Community Revitalization Commission approved $150,000 in Tobacco Region Opportunity Funds for the project. The Virginia Department of Business Assistance will also support the project with training assistance through its Workforce Services Jobs Investment Program.

"Banker Steel is an important part of the regional economy, and we're pleased they chose Campbell County for their expansion,” said Eddie Gunter, Jr., Chairman Campbell County Board of Supervisors, Concord District. “The new jobs Banker will create helps replace those lost when Hirschfeld ceased operations. I applaud Banker's expansion. Campbell County remains committed to helping existing businesses grow."
