RICHMOND - Governor Mark R. Warner today announced that Mod-U-Kraf Homes, LLC will invest $2.8 million to expand the company’s Rocky Mount facility. The company plans to hire 50 new employees when construction is completed in December. Virginia successfully competed with North Carolina and Ohio for the project.

“It’s always gratifying to watch a company born in Virginia grow in Virginia,” said Governor Warner. “Mod-U-Kraf Homes considered several other states and found the Southwest Virginia workforce and the Commonwealth’s costs for doing business too competitive to beat.”

Started in 1971, Mod-U-Kraf has become a leading manufacturer of systems-built, single-family homes and special projects that include multi-family housing and light commercial buildings. The company’s production facility and corporate offices are located in Rocky Mount. Mod-U-Kraf markets its homes in Georgia, Eastern Kentucky, Maryland, North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, Eastern Tennessee and West Virginia. The company is a member of the Coachmen Industries Housing Group (NYSE:COA), one of the leading manufacturers of recreational vehicles and the largest modular home producer in the United States.

“The further we looked into Virginia, Franklin County and the Town of Rocky Mount, we became more convinced that Virginia will continue to offer the quality workforce, competitive business costs, and a general great environment that made Mod-U-Kraf successful from its start in 1971,” said Jeff Powell, Vice President and General Manager of Mod-U-Kraf Homes, LLC.

The Virginia Economic Development Partnership worked with Franklin County and the Town of Rocky Mount to assist Mod-U-Kraf with its decision. The Virginia Tobacco Indemnification and Community Revitalization Commission approved $75,000 in Tobacco Region Opportunity Funds for the project. The Virginia Department of Business Assistance will support the project with training assistance through its Workforce Services Program. The company is eligible to receive benefits from the Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development because it is locating in an enterprise zone.

“Mod-U-Kraf’s decision to locate in Virginia and create 50 new jobs is a welcome announcement in our community,” said Wayne Angell, Chairman of the Franklin County Board of Supervisors.
