Governor Warner Announces Virginia-Based Company Expanding to Southside

RICHMOND - Governor Mark R. Warner today announced that EIT, Inc., a contract provider of electronic design and manufacturing services, will invest $12 million to build a manufacturing facility in the City of Danville, creating 120 new jobs. Virginia successfully competed against North Carolina for the project.

EIT currently employs over 230 people at its Sterling, Va., headquarters near Dulles International Airport in high-tech engineering, production and technical support positions.

“To see a Virginia-founded company continue to expand throughout the state is extremely gratifying,” said Governor Warner. “This job announcement marks the 11th for Danville in less than two years, and I am especially pleased that access to Danville’s Institute for Advanced Learning and Research was a key part of the equation. I congratulate Southside on yet another great win.” 

EIT is a privately owned company founded in 1977 by current Virginia House of Delegates member Joe T. May to provide full contract electronic design and manufacturing services, from product concept through distribution and aftermarket support. EIT serves a broad customer base throughout the United States and Canada in the medical and analytical instrumentation, industrial process controls, and communications industries.

“EIT selected the Cyber Park site in Danville because of the region’s commitment to building a high-technology economy and its central location to our principal markets,” said Del. May. “Key factors in the decision process were the pro-business local government, the Institute for Advanced Learning and Research, and the Regional Center for Applied Technology and Training. Our business will be well served by working closely with these entities and the other like-minded organizations in the community. The local government has done tremendous preparatory work by its efforts and investment in educating the workforce, helping people break the language barrier of technology. We are very excited about being in Danville!”

The Virginia Economic Development Partnership worked with the City of Danville to secure the project for Virginia. The Virginia Department of Business Assistance will provide training assistance through its Workforce Services Program.
