Governor Warner Announces Toll Brothers, Inc. Expansion in Greensville County

RICHMOND - Governor Mark R. Warner today announced a $5 million expansion of Toll Integrated Systems that will increase the company’s manufacturing capacity in the City of Emporia and relocate its warehouse and distribution operations to the Greensville County Industrial Park. The expansion will create 100 new jobs and retain 190 jobs that may have been lost had Toll Brothers, Inc. not chosen Virginia as its expansion location. Virginia successfully competed with Maryland and West Virginia for the project. The company predicts that it will be operational by the end of the year, and will offer jobs that range from support personnel to fork lift drivers.

“Toll Brothers’ decision to expand in the City of Emporia and Greensville County is great news for Southside Virginia and the Commonwealth as a whole,” Governor Warner said. “Our work force is second to none. Combine that with the strategic location of Emporia and Greensville County, and Virginia wins.” 

Toll Integrated Systems is a division of Toll Brothers, Inc., a NYSE traded company with more than 3,400 employees. Toll Brothers, Inc. is headquartered in Huntingdon Valley, Pennsylvania, and is the nation’s largest publicly traded developer of luxury homes. The company designs, builds, markets, and arranges financing for single-family and attached homes in 21 states, serving both move-up and empty nester buyers. The company delivered 6,627 homes in 213 communities in 2004. 

Vice President of Toll Integrated Systems Manfred Marotta said, “Virginia was selected for this expansion project because of its strategic location in the mid-Atlantic region, the state’s positive business climate -- and because of the hardworking people that make up the workforce in the Emporia-Greensville community.”

The Virginia Economic Development Partnership prepared the state’s proposal and negotiated an incentive package to secure the project for Virginia. Governor Warner approved a $300,000 grant from the Governor’s Opportunity Fund to support Greensville County with the project. Greensville County will receive $225,000 in Tobacco Region Opportunity Funds from the Virginia Tobacco Indemnification and Community Revitalization Commission, as well as $450,000 in rail access funding through the Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation. The Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development will award Greensville County with a $175,000 Community Development Block Grant to pay for infrastructure improvements. Toll Brothers, Inc. also qualifies for benefits through the Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development because the new location is in an enterprise zone. The City of Emporia, Greensville County and the Emporia-Greensville Industrial Development Corporation also assisted Toll Brothers, Inc. with its expansion decision.
