RICHMOND - Governor Mark R. Warner today announced that M.C. Dean, Inc. is investing $6.7 million in Caroline County as the location for its new electronics distribution and fabrication facility. This 100,000-square-foot facility will be located in the Shamrock Industrial Park in Bowling Green and will create 40 full-time jobs with pay ranging from $12 per hour to annual salaries up to $100,000. Virginia successfully competed with Maryland for the project.
“M.C. Dean will offer Caroline County residents the option of working close to home while earning a good living for their families,” said Governor Warner. “I am pleased this Northern Virginia firm recognized the assets of a centrally-located rural community and chose to expand in the Commonwealth.”
Based in Chantilly, M.C. Dean, Inc. is a leader in the design, installation, and integration of complex power, electronics, homeland security and telecommunications systems. The firm has extensive experience in providing services to public sector clients, including uniformed and civilian Federal agencies, state, and local government agencies, and institutional and commercial customers throughout the Southeast and worldwide. M.C. Dean, Inc. plans to break ground for the facility in spring 2005, with completion of initial phases slated for fall 2005.
According to Bill Dean, President and CEO of M.C. Dean, Bowling Green offered the firm numerous advantages over other sites under consideration. Among these are the access to Route 301, which facilitates the transport of materials to M.C. Dean, Inc.’s operations; the reasonable cost of land; and the availability of high quality local labor. “We looked at quite a few sites before deciding on Bowling Green,” he said. “Bowling Green was by far the best option in terms of access to major highways, the quality of the local workforce, and a real estate price that allowed us to purchase enough land to meet our needs now and allow room to expand in the future.”
The Virginia Economic Development Partnership worked with the Caroline County Office of Economic Development to assist M.C. Dean with its decision. The Virginia Department of Business Assistance will support the project with its Workforce Services program.
