Advanced Information Services to Locate Division Headquarters in Alexandria

RICHMOND - Governor Mark R. Warner today announced that Advanced Information Services (AIS), an information technology firm based in Peoria, Illinois, has chosen the City of Alexandria as the headquarters of its Federal Services Group. Through a $1.5 million investment, the company plans to create more than 30 new jobs, including positions in software engineering and program management. Virginia successfully competed with Maryland and several mid-western states for the project.

“We are fortunate that AIS has chosen to locate this division in Alexandria,” said Governor Warner. “With its close proximity to existing and potential customers, the company will reap the benefits of this strategic Northern Virginia location.”

This year marks AIS’ 17th anniversary. The company began as a provider of custom software development and, over the years, expanded to include risk-free staffing, high velocity development and productivity enhancement services. AIS is an employee-owned company with approximately 125 software professionals. AIS also has a subsidiary in Chennai, India. The company has received numerous local, state, national, and international awards and is the only small business to receive the IEEE Software Process Achievement Award given by the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE) and the Software Engineering Institute (SEI).

The AIS office is located at 1800 Diagonal Road in Old Town Alexandria near the King Street Metro Station. The company intends to hire 10 Quality Assurance and Configuration Management Specialists immediately. “This area offers an abundance of highly-skilled, well educated, and multi-talented individuals,” said Rita Ali, Manager of the AIS Federal Services Group.

The Virginia Economic Development Partnership and the Alexandria Economic Development Partnership, Inc. assisted AIS with its decision. The Virginia Department of Business Assistance will provide workforce-training services.
