MARTINSVILLE - Governor Mark R. Warner announced today that Axiom Technologies, a manufacturer of advanced engineered ceramic materials for microwave/ RF communication devices for defense, aerospace and commercial applications, will locate its headquarters in the City of Martinsville. The company will create 250 new jobs after completing the planned $5 million investment towards its new facility in Martinsville. Virginia successfully competed with Nevada and Maine for the project. Governor Warner attended this afternoon's announcement event to express his support for this project.
Including today’s announcements, Governor Warner has announced more than 4,883 new jobs and nearly $324.75 million in investment in Southside Virginia since taking office in January. Statewide, Governor Warner has announced more than 24,119 new jobs and $2.46 billion in investment.
“This decision by Axiom Technologies is an incredible win for Southside Virginia and the entire Commonwealth,” said Governor Warner. “This is part of our broader effort to recruit homeland security-related companies to the Commonwealth, realizing the growing importance of that industry. Axiom is exactly the type of company that Virginia can successfully partner with to meet the world’s growing defense and commercial technology needs. Defense manufacturers have long been common in Northern Virginia and Hampton Roads. Today I thank Axiom for defying the norm and locating its corporate headquarters in a rural area where more Virginians can prosper through new job opportunities.”
Axiom Technologies is a manufacturer of engineered super-high-frequency ceramic materials and high-end electronic components for the defense, aerospace and wireless communications industries. Axiom's vertically integrated operation will also include using these complex materials to design and manufacture subsystem components for a new generation of detection and sensing systems used in top-level defense and commercial applications. "We are very excited about the opportunity to locate our business here in Martinsville. This region has so much to offer to businesses: from the availability of a qualified workforce to a variety of incentives that can be attractive to any business, not just ours. But the best part has been the people who worked with us on this project from its conception. The cooperation we have received from the City of Martinsville Economic Development Department, the City of Martinsville Redevelopment and Housing Authority, the Henry County Office of Commerce, and the Virginia Economic Development Partnership was just outstanding. We were thoroughly impressed with the efficiency and responsiveness of the officials involved in making this project happen," said Eugene Belousof, President of Axiom Technologies, Inc.
Governor Warner approved a $250,000 grant from the Governor’s Opportunity Fund to assist Martinsville with the project. Additionally, the city obtained $250,000 in Tobacco Region Opportunity Funds from the Virginia Tobacco Indemnification and Community Revitalization Commission. Axiom Technologies is eligible to receive further tax credits because it is locating in an enterprise zone. The Virginia Economic Development Partnership, the City of Martinsville Economic Development Department, the Henry County Office of Commerce, and the City of Martinsville Redevelopment and Housing Authority assisted Axiom Technologies with its decision. The Virginia Department of Business Assistance will provide workforce training services.
