RICHMOND - Governor Mark R. Warner today announced that Dreaming Creek Timber Frame Homes, Inc. will expand its operations in Floyd County. The company plans to create over 30 new jobs through a $1 million investment at its Floyd Regional Commerce Center facility.

“I am very pleased to see this Virginia-based company expand in Floyd County,” said Governor Warner. “Dreaming Creek is a great corporate citizen providing valuable jobs for the people of the New River Valley.”

Dreaming Creek Timber Frame Homes is a full service company dedicated and committed to preserving the ancient craft of timber frame construction. Headquartered in Powhatan, Virginia, the company specializes in custom residential and commercial timber framing. Dreaming Creek has built structures ranging in size from gazebos to churches, restaurants, specialty shopping centers, and one of the largest timber frame residences in the United States. In Virginia, the company has built many custom designed timber frame homes and custom home additions, as well as the Shenandoah Shakespeare Blackfriar’s Playhouse in Staunton. Through its specialty timbers and truss division, the company has been part of construction projects such as Thomas Jefferson’s Poplar Forest, the wine tasting room at the Barboursville Winery, and the Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden in Richmond.

Located on an 11-acre tract, phase one of Dreaming Creek’s Floyd County expansion includes a 23,000-square-foot manufacturing facility and a two-story, 4,225-square-foot timber frame office housing its design studio. The Floyd County manufacturing and design operations have been consolidated at the new facility. As the company continues to grow, Dreaming Creek plans to hire additional designers, timber framers, material handlers, forklift operators, and supervisors.

“We are pleased to participate in the new Floyd Regional Commerce Center,” said Robert Shortridge, President of Dreaming Creek. “Over the years we have developed a strong partnership with the southwestern part of the state and Floyd County, as well as with its people and their strong work ethic. As this wonderful new facility helps us grow, we’re not only excited about Dreaming Creek’s future, but also the future of both Floyd County and Powhatan County. As we continue our growth we’re already planning additional expansion phases for Floyd.”

The Virginia Economic Development Partnership, U.S. Representative Rick Boucher, the New River Valley Economic Development Alliance, and Floyd County assisted Dreaming Creek with its decision.
