RICHMOND - Governor Mark R. Warner today announced that Comcast Cable Communications, Inc. plans to invest $21.5 million in Prince William County. The investment will create 200 new jobs and preserve 175 existing Virginia jobs. Located in the Innovation@Prince William business park, the company’s new 100,000-square-foot facility will serve as a Comcast Technology Support Center. Virginia successfully competed with Maryland and Michigan for the project.

“Comcast Cable is joining a prestigious list of companies located in Prince William County,” said Governor Warner. “The company will benefit from its convenient location and the region’s world class workforce.”

Headquartered in Philadelphia, Comcast Cable is a division of Comcast Corporation (www.comcast.com), a developer, manager and operator of broadband cable networks and provider of programming content. Comcast Cable is the third largest cable company in the United States. The company provides basic cable, digital cable and high-speed Internet services. Comcast Cable’s approximately 18,000 cable division employees serve more than 8.4 million customers in six geographic regions.

Comcast Cable serves more than 1.5 million customers in Maryland, Delaware, Virginia and the District of Columbia. Comcast, whose Mid-Atlantic Division offices are located in White Marsh, Maryland, employs more than 4,000 people in the Mid-Atlantic Division.

“After an extensive multi-state search, Comcast selected Prince William County for multiple reasons,” said Jaye Gamble, Regional Vice President, Comcast's Washington Metro/Virginia Region. “We were most impressed with the commitment from the county and the state to this project. The commitment to reduce costs and provide rapid review and approval of the tenant improvement plans reflects the county’s favorable business environment. Additionally, the participation by the state, in particular Governor Warner, to address tax issues and provide training support is another indication of Virginia’s competitive advantage.”

The Virginia Economic Development Partnership and the Prince William County Department of Economic Development assisted Comcast Cable with its decision. The Virginia Department of Business Assistance will provide workforce training services.
