Governor Warner Announces Unveiling Of Mecklenburg County's Three New Industrial Parks

MECKLENBURG COUNTY - Governor Mark R. Warner today announced the unveiling of three new industrial parks in Mecklenburg County – a first for a rural Virginia community. All developed within the past 18 months, the new parks include a variety of competitive features to attract new industrial prospects. Virginia Secretary of Commerce and Trade Michael J. Schewel joined state, regional and local representatives on an inaugural tour of the three industrial parks today. 

“My administration is working hard to bring new jobs to rural Virginia,” said Governor Warner. “Through my Economic Crisis Strike Force, we are partnering with communities in Southside to develop solid economic strategies and create quality jobs. These three available industrial parks demonstrate that Mecklenburg County is serious about economic development.”

Each park is designed to target a specific industry cluster such as technology, distribution and manufacturing. Each park offers a variety of features, including graded pads, completed preliminary environmental work, access to the regional water authority, and excellent transportation access. Two of the parks were developed through regional cooperation with revenue-sharing agreements in place.

P. Hudgins, Sr., Chairman of the Mecklenburg County Board of Supervisors. “The Warner administration has been untiring in its efforts to assist Mecklenburg County as we face record job losses, and we deeply appreciate the concern that has been shown for our citizens.”

The Virginia Economic Development Partnership, the Lake Country Marketing Council and the Mecklenburg County Office of Economic Development will assist in marketing the new parks to industrial prospects. The towns of Clarksville, Chase City, Boydton and South Hill also contributed to the development of the parks.

The Virginia Economic Development Partnership, a marketing organization, was created by the Virginia General Assembly in 1995 to encourage, stimulate, and support the development and expansion of the economy of the Commonwealth. The Partnership is a state authority, which is governed by a 15-member Board of Directors appointed by the Governor. To accomplish its objectives of promoting economic expansion within the Commonwealth, the Partnership focuses its efforts on business development and international trade.
