RICHMOND - Governor Mark R. Warner today announced that WAM!NET, a global provider of secure, digital content delivery and hosting solutions, has opened its Government Services division headquarters in Herndon, VA and plans to create more than 200 new jobs through a $1.5 million investment in Fairfax County. Virginia successfully competed with Maryland and Washington D.C. for the project.

“WAM!NET’s decision to headquarter its government services division in Fairfax County illustrates Virginia’s pro-business climate,” said Governor Warner. "This company will continue to benefit from the many IT resources and knowledge workers in the Northern Virginia area."

Located in Herndon, VA, WAM!NET Government Services leverages the company’s commercial experience and best practices to design, develop, deploy and manage secure enterprise networks for Federal, state, and local government clients. It is one of the largest subcontractors on the Navy Marine Corp. Intranet (NMCI) project, the largest enterprise IT initiative ever undertaken by the Federal government.

“Through closer proximity to existing and potential customers and partners, WAM!NET Government Services can be more competitive in the Federal IT arena,” says Mike Barbee, President, WAM!NET Government Services. “In addition, we have aggressive growth plans and having access to seasoned IT professionals will be important to our recruitment efforts.”

The Virginia Economic Development Partnership and the Fairfax Economic Development Authority assisted WAM!NET with its decision. The Virginia Department of Business Assistance will provide workforce training services.

“We are delighted to have WAM!NET here. It is a significant addition to the Fairfax County economy and the company's decision to locate here is a strong testimonial to the continued vitality of our technology community,” said Katherine K. Hanley, Chairman of the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors.
