Governor Gilmore Announces Homeplus Insurance Location in Chesapeake
February 1, 2000Decision will create 150 new jobs in Hampton Roads
Richmond - Governor Jim Gilmore today announced that HomePlus Insurance Agency, Inc., an affiliate of the Minnesota Life Insurance Company, will locate a sales center in the City of Chesapeake creating 150 new jobs over the next two years. Virginia was selected for the $3 million investment after a nationwide search. The facility will be located in an existing building at the Battlefield Technology Center I.
"I welcome HomePlus Insurance Agency to the Commonwealth where several major insurance companies already prosper," said Governor Gilmore. "This firm will benefit from Virginia's qualified labor force and business friendly environment."
Minnesota Life Insurance Company, the parent firm of HomePlus Agency, is one of the most highly rated life insurers in the United States. With more than $200 billion in force of life insurance and $20 billion of assets under management, the company serves more than six million people. Its combined workforce totals 4,400 employees. In Chesapeake, HomePlus Agency will provide home and automotive insurance quotes by serving customers through toll free telephone lines. Its services are endorsed by major financial institutions throughout the country.

The Virginia Economic Development Partnership, the Hampton Roads Economic Development Alliance and the City of Chesapeake assisted the company with its decision. The Virginia Department of Business Assistance will provide workforce training services.
