Governor Gilmore praises NEC's decision to create 100 jobs
Richmond - Governor Jim Gilmore today announced that NEC America, the U.S. affiliate of a global technology leader, will expand its Fairfax County facility. The company will create 100 new jobs as a result of the multimillion-dollar expansion.
"Virginia continues to thrive as a technology leader," said Governor Gilmore. "NEC's decision to reinvest in the Commonwealth proves that our business climate and quality of life provide the necessary environment for international companies to succeed."
NEC, recognized as a worldwide leader in high technology, is one of the few companies capable of offering a full spectrum of products and systems in semiconductors, electron devices, communications, computers, imaging, and computer peripherals. NEC is poised to play a vital role in the Internet age, providing cutting-edge solutions. The expanded Fairfax facility will accommodate NEC's EF&I (Engineer, Furnish and Install) business.
"NEC America has had a presence in Fairfax County since 1963 when we opened our first office in the Falls Church area. We elected to expand our presence in Virginia and specifically Fairfax County where there is a business friendly atmosphere along with access to a very talented labor pool and transportation hubs," said Dr. Rikio Maruta, senior vice president of NEC America, Inc.
"Virginians are proud of our successful business history with technology companies," said Secretary of Commerce and Trade Barry E. DuVal. "NEC is a technology leader in Northern Virginia and will continue their success as they hire more qualified engineering professionals from the region.
" The Virginia Economic Development Partnership and the Fairfax County Economic Development Authority assisted NEC with its decision. The Virginia Department of Business Assistance will provide workforce training services to the company.
