Swedish-owned Svedala to move facility from West Virginia to Saltville
Smyth County - Virginia Governor Jim Gilmore today announced the decision by Svedala Industri AB to relocate a manufacturing facility from Nitro, West Virginia, to the Town of Saltville. The Swedish company will invest $350,000 in the facility and create at least 45 new jobs for Southwest Virginians over the next year.
"I am pleased that an international manufacturer like Svedala has invested its future in Smyth County, Virginia," said Governor Gilmore. "This company will create 45 new quality jobs for the region and will help bolster Southwest Virginia's economy."
Headquartered in Malmo, Sweden, the Svedala Group is a world leader in the production of equipment and systems for the construction, mining, aggregate, mineral processing, and bulk material handling sectors. The Group encompasses some of the best known names in the world serving these sectors such as Barmac, Dynapac, McNally Wellman and Trellex. Welders, fitters, general laborers, assemblers and administrative support personnel will be hired to work in the 59,000-square-foot building scheduled to begin operating on August 1, 1998.
"Our company realized we needed to expand our facility," said Damon Allen, General Manager of Svedala's Saltville plant. "Virginia's central location and dedicated workforce helped sway our decision to relocate here. We look forward to growing our manufacturing operation in the Commonwealth."
The Virginia Economic Development Partnership, the Mount Rogers Partnership, Smyth County and the Town of Saltville assisted the company with its decision.
