Governor Gilmore Welcomes College House, Inc. and 50 New Jobs

Richmond - Virginia Governor Jim Gilmore today announced that College House Inc. will relocate its corporate headquarters from Westbury, New York, to an Enterprise Zone in the City of Richmond. A manufacturer of silk-screen and embroidered garments, College House will create 50 new jobs with an investment of $1.5 million.

"I am pleased that College House has recognized the positive benefits of doing business in Virginia, a strong right-to-work state," Governor Gilmore said. "Manufacturing remains the Commonwealth's largest employer. We welcome our newest manufacturer to Virginia and the quality jobs they bring."

The College House was originally started in 1906 in New York City as Blumberg Brothers. A pioneer in the field of decorated sportswear, College House sells its products to approximately 5,000 accounts worldwide. The company's main customers include college and university bookstores, high schools, and resort markets.

The cooperation we received from Virginia and the City of Richmond was tremendous," said Peter Blumberg, President of The College House Inc. "We are thrilled to relocate here, where the business climate and the quality of life are outstanding."

The Virginia Economic Development Partnership, the Greater Richmond Partnership and the City of Richmond assisted the company with its decision. The company will also be assisted by the Department of Business Assistance, through its Workforce Services program for employee training, and the Financial Services Division, with a working capital loan guarantee.
