Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Firm to Employ 200 at Full Capacity
Fairfax County - Virginia Governor Jim Gilmore today attended a grand opening ceremony for Fuisz Technologies' new pharmaceutical manufacturing facility in Fairfax County. The $15 million investment represents Fuisz's commitment to its on-going research and development programs, as well as its commitment to controlling the manufacture of its products. By creating up to 200 new jobs, the company will possess the flexibility to produce a variety of existing and new pharmaceutical products.
"Fuisz Technologies is an international leader in the pharmaceutical industry," Governor Gilmore said. "The opening of this new facility represents Virginia's emergence as a high-technology state, strengthened by our greatest asset -- our people. I am grateful Fuisz placed confidence in Virginia and decided to expand here."
Founded in 1988, Fuisz is a leader in the fields of advanced drug delivery and food ingredient innovations. The Fairfax County plant will provide the necessary capacity required to manufacture Fuisz's innovative products using its proprietary CEFORMª and SHEARFORMª technologies. The company announced in October, 1997 it would also locate a new food ingredient research and manufacturing facility in Loudoun County, investing $1 million and creating 70 new jobs.
"The location and continued development of our Northern Virginia facilities has provided our growing international operations with several long term strategic benefits including easy access to Dulles International Airport and close proximity to key regulators located in Washington, D.C.," said Ken McVey, chief executive officer of Fuisz Technologies Ltd. "In addition, the importance of a well-educated pool of potential employees - and quality of life for current and relocated employees - cannot be overstated."
The Virginia Economic Development Partnership and the Fairfax County Economic Development Authority assisted the company with its decision.
