High-tech Company's $3 Million Investment will Create and Retain 60 Jobs

Radford - Governor George Allen today announced the decision by Kollmorgen Motion Technologies Group to expand their service center in the City of Radford, a $3 million investment which will retain 30 current jobs for Virginia, and create another 30 at a new building at the Radford Corporate Campus West. Virginia successfully competed against New York for the investment by Kollmorgen.

"This facility will further strengthen Kollmorgen's strategic operations and enhance Virginia's high-tech capabilities and attributes," said Governor Allen. "Kollmorgen is already one of Virginia's outstanding corporate citizens, and has been a valuable partner in helping to develop a new "Radford Campus West" to bring even more investments to Southwest Virginia. It is a pleasure to provide $100,000 to put in motion this development which has so much potential for more job opportunities now and in the future in the Radford Corporate Campus West."

Kollmorgen is a leading international manufacturer of high performance motion control products for commercial, industrial, military and aerospace applications. The company currently employs 721 people in Virginia's New River Valley region. The new facility will work directly with customers and support Kollmorgen's field sales engineers and regional offices. The operation will also interface with the company's network of distributors and representatives and other Kollmorgen offices worldwide. The new 15,000-square-foot facility is expected to be operational in April 1998.

Governor Allen approved a $100,000 Governor's Opportunity Fund grant for the City of Radford to assist with site preparation. In addition, the Virginia Department of Business Assistance will provide workforce training services. The Virginia Economic Development Partnership, the City of Radford, the Radford Industrial Development Authority, and the New River Valley Economic Development Alliance assisted the company with its decision.
