RICHMOND, VA — Richmond National Group plans to invest $1.75 million to expand operations and create 75 new jobs at the firm’s Glen Allen office. Established in 2020, Richmond National specializes in property and casualty insurance for small and mid-sized businesses struggling to obtain coverage in the standard insurance market.

“Richmond National Group’s latest expansion in Henrico County highlights the strength of Central Virginia’s financial services and insurance talent,” said Governor Abigail Spanberger. “The Commonwealth’s vast network of talent helped bring Richmond National here, and it continues to enable this exciting expansion six years later. We are proud to see Richmond National continue to build its future here in Virginia.”

“Virginia’s strong network of insurance and financial services talent make the Commonwealth a natural home for companies like Richmond National Group,” said Secretary of Commerce and Trade Carrie Chenery. “By expanding operations in Henrico County, Richmond National is creating new career opportunities while reinforcing the greater Richmond region’s reputation as a hub for specialty insurance and professional services providers.”

“Five years ago, we started our specialty insurance company in the Richmond area primarily due to its deep talent pool of insurance and financial services professionals and its favorable business environment,” said Richmond National Group President and CEO Joseph C. Kavanagh. “These factors have contributed to our early success as a younger company, and we continue to see significant hiring opportunities in the region.”

“Richmond National’s significant growth since its formation in 2020 reflects the dedication of their team and the skilled talent in the Greater Richmond region, showing what’s possible when people and opportunity come together,” said Henrico County Board of Supervisors Vice Chair Misty D. Roundtree. “We’re thrilled they’ve chosen to expand their Henrico headquarters once again, creating jobs and supporting a thriving local economy, and we wish them every continued success as they move forward.”

“I'm glad to see the continued success and expansion of Richmond National in western Henrico,” said Senator Schuyler VanValkenburg. “Richmond National is filling a niche that helps our smaller businesses, and this expansion shows what a great place Virginia's 16th District is to do business, work, live and raise a family.”

“Virginia, and Henrico County in particular, are the best places to do business,” said Delegate Rodney Willett. “We appreciate having Richmond National Group located in Henrico and are excited about its expansion here. Richmond National is continuing to bring professional employment opportunities to the county, and we have an able workforce ready to fill those positions.”

The Virginia Economic Development Partnership worked with Henrico County to secure the project for Virginia. VEDP will support Richmond National’s job creation through the Virginia Jobs Investment Program, which provides consultative services and funding to companies creating new jobs to support employee recruitment and training activities. As a business incentive supporting economic development, VJIP reduces the human resource costs of new and expanding companies. VJIP is state funded, demonstrating Virginia’s commitment to enhancing job opportunities for citizens.
